ENGINE REBUILD

Our approach to a Full Engine Rebuild DB4/5/6/S & V8 Range

Initially the engine is externally inspected, completely dissembled into all its basic component parts which are further examined, then everything is thoroughly cleaned with a hot detergent wash and high pressure rinsing.
Parts are submerged in a special de-contamination tank for 12 hours, then more high pressure rinsing, an additional chemical dip process brings components back to as new appearance.
Finally a pressure test to check casting porosity of the head(s) for the main in depth inspection.

A comprehensive report is compiled on the overall condition of all components with our recommendations as to what action will be required to continue.
The client is informed of our assessment and invited to discuss all the relevant proposals and options.
A non-returnable fee is charged for this essential section of the service, whether we continue or not.
With full client approval the project proceeds starting with head(s) and block repairs if necessary. All the plated items (approximately 140/150 individual pieces) are prepared for re-polishing or plating, either nickel or chrome as original, carburettors are either specialist rebuilt or replaced.

The block meanwhile is prepared with new JMB designed liners (4 new liner seals replace the 2 as original) fitted and clamped for 12 hours, the torque plate is then re-torqued and the block bored and honed to finished size through the torque plate.
The block is set up checked for square and line bored back to original specification, all the attached components and their contact surfaces are checked and given a minimum skim, then with a thorough clean and dry it is finally mounted on an engine stand, sealed until assembly.

The crankshaft, conrods and all relative parts are crack tested to ensure non failure.
The crankshaft is then balanced, (if required will be ground to the next undersize, 5 tenths tolerance is the factory spec, we reduce this to 3 tenths), the flywheel, clutch, front damper, pistons and conrods are also balanced.

Piston rings are individually gapped to suit each bore and fitted to the relevant piston.
The complete cylinder head work and lead free preparation is included, detailed as a separate procedure listed below.

All ancillary components are thoroughly cleaned and rebuilt with our improvements.

New parts where and if required:-

Water pump Hi-Flow impeller and ceramic seal upgrade for increased flow
Oil pump re-machined to take 1.150 " rotor assembly for maximum capacity
Distributor fitted with discreet electronic ignition module for consistent spark, yet retain its original appearance.

Taken from current stock, cleaned and double checked before joining the above in the assembly room for the complete re-assembly will be taken:-

New Components:-

Full gasket sets
Filters, pipes, clips and connectors.
Front torsion vibration damper (balanced)
Set of JMB special head studs and thick washers
Timing & Oil pump chains, tensioners and guides
Sets of selected bearings - main, thrust and big end
Every other stud (except re-useable main bearing studs)
Set of special HT leads, Distributor cap, Rotor arm and NGK plugs
Set of Ross forged 3 ring pistons complete (balanced and graded)
Every nut, washer and bolt (drilled, lock-wired and specials where required)

When the engine build is complete and operating correctly, the final process is a full test run on the engine dyno, with a print out of performance figures for the report.

If requested a photographic record can be undertaken to accompany the fully detailed progress document, which is presented when the engine is signed off and returned.
